Speech pathology services are often included in health insurance "extra" cover.  Please speak with your health insurer to see what rebate you may be able to claim.

 

NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME

Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Plan - Chronic Condition Management (CcM) Plan

You or your child may be eligible to receive 5 rebated sessions per calendar year through Medicare. This program requires a referral and care plan from your GP.  The rebate is currently $61.80 per session (as of January 2026).

Complex Neurodevelopment Disorders & Eligible Disabilities (MEDICARE M10 item group)

From 1 March 2026, Medicare eligibility is expanding to support access to speech pathology services for individuals with conditions such as stuttering, speech sound disorders, and cleft lip and/or palate.

Children with communication or neurodevelopmental difficulties may be eligible for Medicare-funded services with a referral from a GP or paediatrician.

The maximum number of treatment sessions is 4 assessment sessions and 20 therapy sessions per lifetime. A Medicare rebate of $87.25 applies to these sessions.
